The problem with American citizenship is that it doesn't automatically allow children born abroad to American citizens to automatically obtain nationality. You need to first register your child as an American born Abroad and meet the residential requirements as a parent (which I believe is why they want the five years proof that you lived in the USA). Your US passport shows that you are a US citizen but it won't show that your child is able to inherit this status. Call your parents if they are in the USA. See if you can get proof of school records, bank statements (if the bank will write a letter for you), doctor's letter, residential agreements etc.

Well, sounds like they already told you, you need to prove that your a us citizen. How did you get to Egypt without a passport? wouldn't a US birth certificate be approapriate, and also maybe some more documentation, like maybe a US drivers licence? It has nothing to do with your child. and from the information you gave, they didn't even say anything about your child. Since the kid is under 18, it is your right as a parent to move him/her around as you please, as long as You are legal about it. Good luck.
