What do I need to get my baby a Portuguese passport in London?

  • My husband is a Portuguese citizen and I am South African. We were married in South Africa but now live in London. Our son will be born in London but will not be eligible for a British passport as we are not yet permanent residents. Could anyone assist with what documentation we would need to get our son a Portuguese passport from London? As I understand you need to go to the Portuguese Consulate to apply but I want to make sure that we have everything we need when we get there. Also, has anyone had experience with this? How long does a passport for baby take?

    Last I was aware, you would need birth certificates for all three of you, a copy of your marriage license, and your husband's Portuguese ID card.
