How do you get an F-1 visa?

How to get F1 Visa if I my B1 visa is expired but I have a valid I-20 AB form?

• I came to the US with my B1 visa in summer and I got into high school im Michigan (not far from Detroit). It's a private catholic high school, and I am a very good student here (my GPA for the first semester is 3.9). My B1 visa expired on January, 7th, 2009.. But I got my I-20 AB form in December, 2008, and my counselor told me that's fine. But just a few days ago I figured out that I have to get my F1 visa. What am I supposed to do now?

  Well, first off you need to talk to your high school administration. if they issued you an I-20, you're probably already registered with USCIS and you're now under F1 status as a student. If that's not the case, you do have a problem as you'd be out of status. If you are properly registered with USCIS, then you don't need a student visa unless you leave to go home on vacation. In that case, you'd need a proper student visa to return.
