Can I still get the US visa?

How can someone get an F-1 visa (student visa) while in the US on a tourist visa?

  • How can someone, who traveled to the United States on a tourist visa get a student visa (F-1 status), while staying in the United States. The person already has the i-20 from the college he's planning on attending, but he received the i-20 while still in the US. Must he leave the US and go back to his home country to do this, or can he do it right here in the US? Please give me anything you know:

  • Answer:

You'd have to apply for a change of status through USCIS, which may or may not be approved. check out www.uscis.gov for more information and downloadable forms.
