What kinds of things should i study/get college degrees in if i want to work in an embassy?

in a teenager interested in state department embassy work. what kinds of classes should i take? what kind of college degrees should i get?

languages, political science, and a good internship or two. Don't get into any trouble with the law, because nearly all of those jobs will require a security clearance.

i wanted to go into foreign service when i got out of the air force and was told i needed to get a degree in political science with another major in french language. probably don't need french now, but foreign language study is probably still required.
