How can a Canadian visiting the UK obtain an INR blood test?

British citizenship via dead unmarried father?

  • Hi, i was wandering if i could aquire a UK passport if my mother is a Jamaican, gave birth to me in Jamaica Hospital but my father is unmarried British natural born and raised...and lived there. My mother and father information is on my jamaican birth certificate. It was a one night stand i was conceived when my father came here visiting long time ago. My father never married my mother. I was born 1986. BUT my father is now dead. He no longer alive. Can i obtain british citizeship still? Are they still going to need paternal evidence or DNA test to prove this even though he is dead?

  • Answer:

Unfortunately you cannot claim British citizenship, if your father was not married to your mother, although, he had the option to register your birth (UK citizenship by descent) at the British High Commission in Kingstown before you turned 18. As a commonwealth citizen, you could be eligible for a UK Ancestry Visa if your one of your father's parents were born in the UK. Also, after 5 years of residence in the UK you can apply for British citizenship by registration, as you are a child of a British father. For more info, please contact the British High Commission in Jamaica http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_nationality_law
