Can I get a visa to France?

Can I get a Schengen Visa from Italian embassy to go to France?

  • my wife and I would like to visit my sister in France on a holiday. She needs a visa to travel to France. Our closest European Schengen Embassy is an Italian one here in the UK. Can my wife apply for a Schengen from the Italian Embassy so we can travel to France? (we will not be visiting Italy though) Is this allowed? Thanks

It does not work, for a visa application at an Italian consulate you will need to provide the following documentation: • Duly filled application form • A valid passport with the UK residence permit applied on your passport. Both your passport and your residence permit in the UK must be valid for at least three months beyond the returning date of your trip; • Two colour, recent, passport size, photo in white background • Travel bookings to Italy/Proof of available means of personal transport. • Hotel reservation or a letter of invitation by your host in Italy, signed by him/her and with a photocopy of his/her valid I.D. or his/her residence permit in Italy if non-EU-citizen;, • A reference letter in original only by your employer, school or University. The letter should be addressed to ‘The Consulate of Italy, Manchester’ • Recent pay slips/ salary slips • Last three months current account bank statements (you need to show you have at least £30.00 for each day of intended stay in Italy or in the Schengen Territory. For example, if you apply to stay 30 days in Italy you need to show a balance of £ 900.00 in your latest bank statement). • Travel insurance covering the intended period of stay with a minimum coverage of EURO 30,000 for emergency hospital and repatriation expenses. • A photocopy of the documentation. If you do not provide this documentation for Italy but for France they will deny your application and refer you to the French consulate. http://www.consmanchester.esteri.it/Consolato_Manchester/Menu/I_Servizi/Per_chi_si_reca_in_italia/ ..

Theoretically that would work, but all Schengen countries are quite clear on this - apply to the embassy of the Schengen country you're going to visit first or are going to spend most time in. France is going to ask a lot of questions if she doesn't.
