Who is the corps diplomat in U.S.A?

Would joining the Peace Corps help me become a diplomat?

  • I'm a sophomore in high school and I really want to join the foreign service. I'm sure that I want to join the Peace Corps after college and I was wondering if that would help me become a diplomat.

  • Answer:

It certainly won't hurt. on the other hand, it won't help you pass the entrance exam either. any and all overseas experience is useful, and any foreign language ability helps as well. the harder the language, the better. But a year or two of the Peace Corps is a great experience and there are many foreign service officers who have previously served in the Peace Corps.

Yes. One guy in my group went straight into the Foreign Service after he completed his Peace Corps stint.

an advanced degree in international relations would be better.

You can actually do foreign service work while you are still in high school. They can fly you out in the summer and you can push paper in some foreign country intern style.
