What do I need to travel from Europe to America?

Do I need a travel visa to the UK and Schengen Area If I have a criminal record?

  • I am an Australian citizen. I just recently came from america for a couple months but I had to get a 5 yr visa since I have a criminal record (though very very minor but arrested nonetheless) hence I was ineligble to travel under the VWP (Visa waiver program) I intend to visit europe for 3 months in December. Is this the same with the UK and the Schengen Area (italy, poland, france, etc). i.e Do I need a visa if I have a criminal record or does the US just have more stricter regulations to entry requirements. I have a valid Australian passport of course. Also the crime I did was 6 yrs ago when I was 18. I got 12 month good behaviour bond for assault and damage to property.

  • Answer:

since the ESTA program was put in use, every one gets checked before hand. you may enter Europe or any other country for that matter without being checked first/no visa or prior approval.. the US is stricter. if all who have a criminal record could not travel? you cannot have this hanging over your head for life, it is in the past.. maz/

No you do not need a visa to enter the UK or the Schengen area. Your conviction is probably spent. In the UK it would almost certainly be spent after five years.
