I have a passport question.

Son is British/American. UK passport question?

  • My 5 month old son is American. I am American citizen and he was born here in the states. We already have his American passport. I have a question about the British passport. We sent off for his British passport several weeks ago, included all the proper documentation. His father is a UK citizen, born in the UK by UK parents, so he can pass his citizenship down to his son, that isn't in question. I am curious though about something. This morning they finally took payment out of our bank account for the passport. Does this mean they are finished with the verification process and have approved his passport? Or are they just now starting the process?

  • Answer:

Yes, I would expect that this means he has been approved. If a child has a parent who was born in the UK, they qualify a as citizen-by-descent.

It takes 3 months to wait.

They are processing now. You will have to wait for approval like I do. If they decide that you get it, great. If not, they keep the money for their time. It sucks.
