Can a person earn more in india than america?

A Canadian citizenship person ,presently in India wishes to earn for her survival, who has to give permission?

  • The person's parents are of Indian origin, first migrated to Sri Lanka ,the questioner was born in Sri lanka ,migrated to canada along with her parents, got citizenship of Canada.Presently staying in India.Under Visa rules, she should not indulge in earning and as per visa rules an undertaking is given to that extent . Presently she finds hardships to her survival since all her savings are exhausted and she wants to earn. She is well qualified ,presently working as lecturer freely ,on honorary basis,no honorarium,. since the rules will not permit her to receive salary. The Management is kind enough to give her permission in writing that she can serve their institution and even ready to remunerate for her services. But the problem is she has already given an undertaking that she will not receive salary under visa rules. She is ready to assure in writing that if she is permitted to receive salary for her survival, the amounts will not be repartiated to any othe country and will be strictly in India. For this problem , whom to consult and who has got the authority to permit her working on salary basis for her maintenance?

  • Answer:

She should approach Canadian Embassy at the earliest. I guess they will be the best people to answer all her queries and will be of some help definitely. If the girl is based in Delhi, then she can go to Canadian Embassy located in Chanakyapuri near Motibagh area. Well, it's not gonna be an easy task arriving in India on some random visa and start working and earning here. She needs to get a work visa in order to work in India. If she is ready to take a li'l bit of risk, she can start earning money by lectures and all without letting anyone know that she is not on work visa. But then, this is a risk and there will always be a fear of getting caught :-)

If her parents were Indian Citizens, the most straight forward option would be to apply to become an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI). The OCI has lifelong validity and permits the holder to enter India without applying for a visa, to work etc. without registration as a foreigner. The cost is approximately US$275. Applications within India: Under Secretary (OCI), Foreigners Division, Ministry of Home Affairs, 26-Mansingh Road, Jaisalmer House, New Delhi-110011. Tel. No. 011-23387436.
