Spanish Visa from Morocco?

If I take a day trip to Morocco, can I extend my visa for Spain?

  • I'm and American who has been living in Spain for two and a half months. In about two weeks my visa will be expired. I've been having some trouble getting my a work or student visa here, but I definitely want to stay in Spain longer. I'm thinking about going to Morocco for a day trip and getting a stamp on my passport. Will this allow me to continue traveling in the EU without problems when my passport gets checked? And then with the extended three months, maybe I can work on getting a student or working visa?

  • Answer:

You can stay 3 months in any 6 month period then go home

Visas to Spain are not issued or extended at the border. Leaving and reentering will not grant any extension. If you did not obtain any visa in advance, but was granted leave to enter at the border, you may stay in the Schengen Area (Spain + 24 other countries) for up to 90 days within six months from your first entry. A new entry stamp within this six month period will not reset the clock. You may exit and enter the Schengen Area as often as you like, but every day (or part thereof) spent in the Schengen Area will count.
