Answer:
British citizenship by descent is only handed down one generation, so your parents could have obtained it but could not have passed it on to you. To obtain automatic citizenship one of your parents must have been born in the UK. http://www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/britishcitizenship/applying/applicationtypes/hongkongconnection/typeofcitizenship/ If you are a New Zealand citizen then you can get an Ancestry Visa on the basis of a grandparent born in the UK. This is a five year visa which allows you to live and work in the UK and after five years continuously employed, you can claim Indefinite Leave to Remain (settlement) after a further year you can apply for citizenship. http://www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/ukresidency/eligibility/unitedkingdomancestry/ You cannot come to the UK and study on this visa; you must be willing and able to work, although you could study part time.

No, unless either your father or mother was born in the UK, you're not eligible for a British passport. British nationality only passes to one generation by descent from your grandparents to your father/mother but your father/mother cannot pass it to you unless you born in the UK.

It is your birth certificate that is important when it comes to looking into these things. Where you yourself was born and where your parents were born. You need some advice and best bet would be to ring the nearest consulate to you and ask. It is actually unlikely that you will qualify esp if you were born and bought up in New Zealand but your grandparents must have had some documents at the time for New Zealand to take them in as immigrants and that may be the reference point you need.

Really unlikely you will be eligible - back when your grandparents emigrated to NZ if they had kept thier British passorts then maybe, maybe they could have registered their children (your parents) as British Citizens. If they did not - then now more than ever going back and asking for something your parents never had by saying your grandparents had it is prob not going to work. Just call the British Consulate in Wellington and ask.

I'm afraid I am not sure, but i fear you may not be a British Citizen anymore, in which case you shall have to obtain citizenship.
