I cannot get a copy of my birth certificate!!?

  • I was born to american parents in Italy, was issued a birth abroad birth certificate that gave me american citizenship..but because i was born on italian "soil" i also had italian citizenship..called dual citizenship.....my birth certificate and certificate of birth abroad have been lost....The united states, local state agencies don't know how to help me, I tried contacting the air force since my father was serving at the time...and they don't know what to do...how the heck can i get a copy of my birth certificate and birth abroad certificate...The birth abroad certificate is real important as it is proof I am a citizen...especially when I put italy as my birth place on applications and forms....any help appreciated

    Do what i did 5 years back, when i was in need of a certificate. You know what town your were born, so look up and find the web page of the town (the page will give info on the town/important offices and such). Most pages offer English, you need to look for the town hall listing on the web page. Or look up the town hall of the town you were born in, if on any page you find an email address to the Mayor or the office of the local Mayor then email them. Letting them know what you need, and ask if they can help. 5 years ago i took a shoot in the dark, and emailed the Mayor of Denmark asking how i went about getting a marriage certificate from 20 years ago. And to my "BIG" surprise about 2 weeks later, after i emailed them i received a copy at no cost to me..... I did the same when i needed, copy's of my daughter birth certificate. from Germany, also try getting a hold of the American consulate in Italy they may know how you can go about getting what you need. okay i can't exactly answer your question but my brother and sister had exactly the same problem. Both of my parents were in the Air force and my brother was born in the philliapines nd my sister germany My mom had to do some research online and pay someone specialized in that area to find their birthcertificates. i wish you the best of luck ")

An American certificate of a birth abroad is issued by the FEDERAL government. Specifically the State Department. Not the state. And not the county as normal birth certificates are. Start in Italy. Afterall, that is where you were born. Where do americans report a birth in Italy? The US embassy. Where do you report a birth in Italy? Were you born in a hospital? Did you write them? Did you ever have a passport? If so, how did you get a passport? You would need to submit an original copy of your birth certificate. Then they would have a copy. Maybe you could ask for a copy of that and start from there. Did you go to school? Did they ask for some sort of identification when you first enrolled? Maybe they have a copy somewhere?
