I have a passport question.

Philippine Consulate and passport question very unique situation?

  • When i was 15 i was adopted from the philippines by an american. While the adoption was pending, i got a philippine passport under my birth name and traveled to the united states on a b2 visa. After my adoption was finalized, i never had any identification made under my adopted name. After staying the the US for almost 4 years, i met a great guy whom wanted to marry me. But my passport was about to expire before our wedding date. So i applied to renew it. I had to renew it in my new name because our daughter had my adopted name on her birth certificate and we didn't want any legal confusion later. But the new passport with my adopted name did not arrive in time and we had to use my visa as an ID which had not expired and was in my birth name. So i got married under my birth name. A few months later received my new passport with my adopted name. My husband is in the military and my dependent ID, drivers license, employment authorization card, green card, social security card, bank card and bank accounts is in my birth name with my husbands last name. I want to get my philippines passport fixed to reflect my married name, not my adopted name. What is the best way to approach this. Please note that both my adopted middle and last name is different than my birth middle and last name. And when i got married i dropped my birth last name keeping my birth middle name. Please help me find a solution to this. Thank you, and i apologize for such a long explanation but as i said its a very unique situation.

  • Answer:

It is not complicated at all. Contact the Philippine consulate and tell them that you want to change your name legally in the Philippines to reflect your married name and follow their instructions.
