What are the needs for domestic tourits in the uk?

My friend needs a UK student visa but has a criminal record?

  • Hi My friend would like to study in the UK, but needs a student visa. He is from the USA.. He grew up in a bad neighborhood and has misdemeanor charges and i think he has a felony from 7 years ago (theft) when he was 18. His last misdemeanor is from 2006. He has been accepted to a school in the UK and FAFSA are paying for his studies. Will he likely be turned down for a visa based on his record?

  • Answer:

He should be okay. In assessing criminal records UKBA looks at the sentence the crime would have attracted if it had been committed in the UK. IN your friend's case, if he received a sentence of less than six months or a fine, probation or some kind of community service it would have been 'spent' (similar to expunged) by now under UK law. If it was a crime involving drugs, sex or violence, it would be a very different matter and he would find it difficult to get a visa.

Unfortunately because of his felony, I would say he will have serious issues getting a visa.

I think he'll have no trouble at all...the U.K. doesn't actually bother with criminal records when issuing visas.

Did He tell the school in the UK about his convictions If not he could have his place removed by the school in the UK As is last crime was at 18 then it is not counted as spent for a UK visa which means he likely be turned down for a visa based on his record because theft as a prison term of 5 years or more under UK law

i dont think he will. You ll never know till you try but theft is petty. Tell him to be strong whatver happens and i honestly dont think theft will ruin any chances. Goodluck to him. Fingers crossed. Just call embassy for clarifications dear. Tc
