Can I get a British passport?

Can I get a britsih passport from my late mother who used to have a british passport?

  • I am living in Jerusalem -Israel, and I don't have any kind of citizen ship or a passport. My mother got her British passport from her Indian father before 1948. I can not do anything if I want to visit any Arab country who does not have any diplomatic relations with Israel, but I can travel outside with an Israeli travel document. So please help in this matter hoping that I can find a possitive answer. Thanks

  • Answer:

You don't have any claim to British citizenship as British citizenship only passes down one generation abroad. The only way you could have a claim to British citizenship is if you or your mother was born in the UK.

The best thing you can do is some more online research to establish whether you qualify or not. Try this link http://ukinusa.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/passports/what-passport/first-time-apps/ If you do qualify, which i'm sorry to say i don't think you do from what you have said, then you can apply online but you will need a number of supporting documents.

If you are British you can get one, sounds like you are Israeli so that's what you should get. You birth certificate should tell you your nationality
