Student Ambassador Letter?

I got a letter from People to People Student Ambassador Program?

  • I go the letter in the mail today telling me that i could go top Japan in the summer of 2009. I wanted to know if the send u a letter every year because i don't really want to go to Japan. I would rather go to some place in europe. Is there any way to make this possible? oh and is this really a special thing or do a lot of people recieve this letter?

  • Answer:

I actually went on a People to People trip when I was in high school, to Europe. It is not a scam, it does cost a significant amount of money, but that's because things like international airfare and hotel rooms are expensive! The organization People to People is a non-profit and doesn't make money off of you. That being said, if you have the money to go, or are willing to work for it, it is really fun! To answer your specific questions: a lot of people receive the letter. You do have to have an interview to actually be selected for the program, but I'm pretty sure it's not very selective. If you want to go somewhere else, it is possible. The way it works is a group of kids from your geographical area will be going to Japan this summer, but if you want you can go with a group from another area that is going somewhere else. You can read about all the places People to People goes, and chose the one you want to go on. Or, you can wait until next year, when the group from your area will be going somewhere else. Good Luck!

This is a pretty special thing though not too many people get to do it, althogh a lot of people get letters :) you go to studentambassors.org you can look to see if you can nominate yourself for a europe trips and find more information about them also the trips are very expensive but they are interesting educational, an adventure and all around amazing, I LOVED mine

yeah its really common to receive one of those, i get them all the time. i'm pretty sure you can only go to japan and it cost a ton of money to go.

Dear Sarah, Where they actually send a group differs from year to year. This is a scam, honey. My son and I went to one of their meetings a few years ago. When they say that financial aid is possible...it means that they will give you kits on how to run car washes, etc. to raise the money for your trip. Absolutely all the expenses will be on you--and where you stay, who you get to see, are all decided for you . There was one mother whose eyes were so glazed it was scary who told us it would be more important for your child's future than college so go ahead and break into whatever college money you've managed to scrape up and give it to them. If they can get enough money raised, the "shepherds" who go with you have their expenses paid.If the woman who spoke could get enough kids to sign up with her, she and her daughter would get a free trip as well. In case something happens and you need medical care, you can take out an insurance policy for the trip. I read the pamphlets, and watching these people welcoming "candidates' has a Stepford Wives quality as they quoted the information we'd been given and never answered anything that wasn't covered by the folder and pamphlets we were given. You would not have been contacted if you didn't have a pretty solid GPA, so at least that part of their spiel was true. You are very wise to ask questions and I'm proud of you for checking things out.
