For a married woman, is it necessary to get the name changed in passport?
-
Surname of my wife as per her passport is “Pandey”. After marriage she started writing “Tripathi”. Question: Is it necessary to get her name changed in her passport?
-
Answer:
no it is not necessary to change name in the passport but the name of the husband should be written in the passport for which u need the marriage certificate. if the husband goes abroad any time then it becomes easy for the lady to get a spouse/dependant visa. earlier it must be d/o now it shld be w/o. ask ur wife not to use tripathy, else it will become a habbit and it will defer frm what is mentioned in passport and other documents. it will create some legal hurdles at a later stage.

If she is using Tripathy as her legal name, she should should get her passport changed to prevent any problem. It would be very unpleasant to have a problem returning home from a trip and be stuck where they don't believe you about her name.

If she is legally changing her name, then yes......she will have to get it changed on the passport.

If she has decided to legally change her name, then she needs to reflect that on her passport. Else, she can continue with the old one

Amendment must be made on the passport for the change of the surname due to marriage in order that there will be no problem in the Immigration counter when travelling.

No. Name is personal choice. Normally ladies adopt surname of new family. She was miss Pandey. She is writing Mrs. Tripathi. Where is problem? She can get passport in the name of Pandey / Tripathi.
