How can I work in USA or UK?

I have dual citizenship for the UK and USA. If I move to the US can I live and work there?

  • I was born in USA. I live in UK. I have dual citizenship. If I go back to USA can I live and work there? Will I have to do anything before I go back? Just double checking as I have become quite confused after doing some research. Thank you.

  • Answer:

If you have a US Passport, you can apply for a Social Security Number and therefore work anywhere that will take you.

Simple answer: Yes, a US citizen can live and work in the USA. More realistic answer: You will need a passport to enter the USA. Get that from the US consulate closest to you. Bring your US birth certificate and some ID from the UK. You probably haven't been filing taxes. This is a requirement. We don't know the particulars, but if you *should* have been paying taxes, you could be in some trouble with IRS. I wouldn't worry much, but check with IRS when you get here. Get that passport first. All else will follow. ... Good luck!!

You have full citizenship in the UK and the USA, therefore you have the legal right to live and work in either the UK or the USA.

yes as long as you have been filing your us taxes every year while out of the country

As far as I know, and since you were born in the USA that makes you an American first and British second - which sounds to me like you can just walk home, set up shop and do what Americans do in the USA - your home country. To be sure, why not contact the US Embassy here in London and ask them. http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&sugexp=frgbld&gs_nf=1&cp=14&gs_id=1i&xhr=t&q=us+embassy+london&pf=p&safe=off&sclient=psy-ab&oq=us+embassy+lon&aq=0&aqi=g4&aql=&gs_sm=&gs_upl=&gs_l=&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=49539220ccf7de09&biw=1600&bih=791 One more thing, try to remember some of the words, it helps. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ETrr-XHBjE G'luck

common sense tells me if you are a citizen then you can do whatever any citizen does. There is an immigration section here & maybe people in that section can give you more info.
