What are the requirements to change status of my passport?

Change of Status but no visa on my passport?

  • Hi everyone. I am about to apply for US fiancee visa with my boyfriend who is US citizen, but I have a little concern about my previous stay. I entered US under J-1 visa and later changed the status to B-2 which was approved. When I left the States I attached the new I-94 with the original one and submit the airline company. After coming back to my country I heard from my friends that I would get a problem applying for a visa next time since I only changed the status and there is no visa/visa stamp on my passport. I surely applied to change the status in time and it got approved while staying the US, but there is only J-1 visa on my passport and a stamp for returning my country, which looks like I overstayed. In this case is there any possibility that I would get declined to apply for fiancee visa, or is there anything I can explain to embassy that I was legally staying in the States?

  • Answer:

Sounds complicated. I would consult an attorney just to be sure. It is better to ask a professional.
