Do you think that interest groups have too much power?

Interest Groups and Restrictions...PLEASE RESPOND ASAP?

• Placing restrictions on interest-group activities is difficult because of the constitutional protections afforded to these groups. The Constitution guarantees the people the right to assemble and to petition government regarding their grievances, and it also guarantees freedom of speech. All these are the essence of interest-group activity. Nonetheless, many Americans are uneasy with the influence wielded by organized interest groups. What, if any, restrictions on interest groups would you be comfortable with? Can you think of any instances where the influence of groups should be limited (for example, political extremists like the various militia groups, or large political-action committees in electoral campaigns)?

  That's a tricky issue, because any type of limitations would not only restrict those groups or activities that you disapprove of, it would also affect groups and activities that you do approve of and support. I think the financial area could be looked at though -- not just direct contributions from groups to individuals or parties, but also indirect methods (gifts, trips, meals, etc).
