Do you think that having a contract government job in Canada can lead to permanent?

Why do Americans think we have the best healthcare and privatized healthcare is good?

  • I saw SICKO and it explained how the healthcare companies paid off government officials to keep healthcare private. I dont even doubt that this is true, why else would something as important as healthcare be private? ( I wouldnt even be writing this is the government offered universal along with private, but the fact that everything is privatized scares me!) Did you know that the USA is the only country that doesn't offer universal healthcare as an option for the poor? Have you ever heard a Brit or Canadian say I cant afford the hospital bill? What does that say about our system? It cant possibly be because the US government is broke because last time I checked we were not a third world country. So this leads to me think that the Government chooses to leave it private. Most other counties just make you pay a small tax for healthcare and they fit the remainder of the bill (even third would countries do this) Now I wonder who benefits from healthcare being privatized? The big wigs in the private companies and the Government officials who get paid off. The poor people are the ones who suffer. If your job doesn't offer health benefits then you are SOL and you have to pay out of pocket. If you have a pre-existing condition then you are SOL and have to pay out of pocket. If your insurance company refuses to pay for something then you are SOL and have to pay out of pocket. Does the government know this? OF COURSE they do, but their bribes are to beautiful to resist. I have seen countless people suffer because they couldn't afford to pay these shady companies, and paying out of pocket is ridiculous since an ER visit is like $2,500. Even if you do have insurance you are still f*cked because they tell you which doctor to see and they can also drop you at anytime. A woman at my college got dropped because she has cancer, the insurance company told her that she shouldn't have cancer at such an early age....WTF. Thats just ridiculous and it just disgusts me that my government just doesn't give a damn. I know very well that the company dropped her because they are in it for a profit and not to help citizens. My government went after BP for a mistake they made but they dont go after these shady health insurance companies that kill us and rob us....smh. To tell you the truth I would be proud of my government if they AT LEAST made 1 hospital in every state universal and fit the bill. JUST ONE! But the fact that everything is privatized just makes me feel that the government doesn't give a damn abut if I live or die. They have the money to find Osama but they cant even offer universal healthcare. I got a solution, how about we let private companies focus on Osama and let the government focus on us!!!!!!!!! And please dont get me started on free clinics because the treatment and technology is limited there If you read my rant and you still disagree then maybe you are rich, evil, have a good job that offers health benefits or probably work for one of those companies! I cant watch a fellow American suffer and not rant! That poor girl at my college is running out of money and cant get medicare, I guess she has to go to Canada or UK as a visitor to get treated or stay in the USA and suffer...smh And please no BS about Brits and Canadians come here for treatment or we are the best. We are #37 and France is #1. And please give me a link to hospital records proving lots of Brits come here. if you cant then you just watch to much TV and believe in BS

  • Answer:

The USA has this system as the American people have not tried to change it. Yes, they voted in Obama to change things, but in the last elections, they fell for the lies and half truths both about reform and the need for reform and voted in people who would not bring about change that means anything. So to answer the question, the USA has the system it has because Americans have falled for the lies and half truths of the right. The sad thing is that the facts are so simple. FACT - Insurance companies in the USA admit to pushing up prices, buying politicians and not paying out claims when they should FACT - PER PERSON the USA spends more on healthcare than any other nation on the planet FACT - Obama debated his plans before the election for healthcare FACT - the chance of a child under five of dying in the USA is greater than industrialised nations with universal healthcoverage FACT - Obama was elected by the American people to bring in change FACT - Obama wants to stop insurance companies from screwing the American people FACT - The reforms Obama wants work in the Netherlands and in Switzerland Now, unlike other posters here, I can back up my facts with evidence. For those who are interested in the evidence, click on the links below. Of course, many who are against making the health of America better refuse to look at the links, or provide evidence to back up what they say.

"SICKO?" Not a credible source to say the least. That being said, America is essentially a free market, capitalist country and, like our forefathers clearly knew, we simply don't want big government controlling our health care. Try and imagine the same bureaucracy who just hammered out our budget controlling our health care - that's just plain scary.

I'm not reading all of this, but to answer your original question, I can only assume these people have never actually needed any healthcare. Between myself and my family, we've had more than enough chance to sample the "best healthcare system in the world." You've got to be kidding. When I had a hysterectomy, the insurance company wanted me discharged before my doctor did. The hospital would not get reimbursed if I stayed, but they couldn't bill me for it, so they beeped my doctor 18 times in one night to try to get him to release me a day earlier than he wanted. He wouldn't do it. They took my IVs out, they put me on a regular diet when he didn't want me on one yet--and this was because some insurance company wonk thought he knew better than my doctor. Ever been to an ER? I have been with family members more times than I can count. You can lie there for hours or even a day without getting anything--and I live in a suburb on Long Island, NY, hardly a poverty-stricken area. How could the government do worse? Edit: Yeah, but LeAnn, people on Medicare get their benefits. Social Security benefits go out every month quite efficiently. And the government wouldn't be motivated by profit as the insurance companies are.

bookish

Many reasons... 1) Everything about America is AWESOME! Just because it is.. and we're Americans, so America is AWESOME! 2) For profit is good! Capitalism!!!! Anything else is socialism, and socialism is EVIL! 3) Our health care system is absolutely the best there is in the world. It really is... But......... only a handful of the population can afford access to this great system. The rest of us are "poor slackers who want to suck off the teat of Government by strangling the wealth out of the wealthy." == edit == See? Jaylan White proved #3

We do and always have during my lifetime. If the whining bums would get a job and pay for their own, like we old timers did it would be affordable for us all.
