What is jury duty?

What is Jury Duty and what does it do?

  • What is Jury Duty? does it happen when your 18? or older? My friends are 18 -20 and getting them because they need to go to the Court. What do they do? and why they do this? am I next?

  • Answer:

Anyone accused of a crime is entitled to a court trial and to be judged by a jury of his peers. The court system needs people to sit as jurors. Everyone of age 18 receives a summons to appear at some time. These days you just call the court house the night before and you are told if they need you tomorrow. If needed you appear. Then sent to different court rooms where the defense attorney, the prosecutor and sometimes the judge asks you questions in an attempt to see if you qualify. Failure to appear when summoned means a warrant is issued for your arrest and community service, fines and jail time are the result.
