What do French people think of Nicholas Sarkozy?

Does Nicolas Sarkozy attack France’s freedom of speech with new Armenian genocide law?

  • Is it attack on France’s freedom of speech the effort of Nicolas Sarkozy's to create law that punishes denial of the Armenian genocide? Can you use a law to force people how to think, and not allow them to make decision based on historical facts? Is this something like big brother is watching you? Is this dictatorship? Please note that question is not if genocide happened or not!

  • Answer:

not aware of that particular law, but yes. free speech is unconditional, the way i see it. the idea that one can't openly deny a truth is ridiculous. how else can the one learn the truth? the remedy to wrong speech is correct speech.

Similar laws have been passed in most European countries, generally about the Jewish holocaust. Anyway, it only is an attack on Freedom of Speech if you consider anything should be allowed to be said. All laws are technically "attacks" on freedom, but they are generally necessary. Laws on free speech, which focuse on hate speech, are the same.
