What does freedom mean to you?

What does the word "freedom" mean to you?

  • both Romney and Santorum talked about "Freedom" today after the primary in Illinois, how does their perception of "Freedom" match up to yours? America's, Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, and the Bill of Rights, spell out our Freedoms. How does your idea of "Freedom" match up to them.

  • Answer:

I have the Right to: 1) Live....as long as I don't infringe on someone else's right to Live. 2) Liberty...the freedom to do Whatever I Want (even Porn, Mr. Santorum, even though I'm against the exploitation of Women) as long as I don't infringe on someone else's freedoms. 3) the Pursuit of Happiness...No one can restrict me from Putting out the Effort or making the Sacrifices I need to, in order to be Happy, as long as my actions are not Preventing someone else in their efforts to do the same. That is what was Intended, That is what I Believe, That is what I Live, That is what has been Trampled on and distorted beyond recognition in the last 30 years or so. The 3 Rights now are: 1) I have the Right to live, but not the Responsibility to do what is needed to provide for my own Life. 2) My Liberty and Freedom is more important than yours, so you have to Sacrifice for me, but I don't have to Sacrifice for myself. 3) Happiness is a Guarantee. I believe I should get the Same Outcome without the Same Effort. Sad.

Freedom means nothing any more. We do not have freedom. Any one who takes the trouble to be honest and look around at everything will know this is true. Even your most basic rights are or can be taken away from you at any time.

freedom to me means that i have no restrictions on what i can do and i get to chose how i do it im in control

Freedom, to me, is simply a concept created to make people feel better about their life situation, to give them a feel of "control". And it does. But only on a very limited scale. Even though the vast majority of us can choose where to eat, what clothes to wear, and what TV shows to watch, many people are limited by economic means. For example, if you are a high school teacher, you really aren't going to be able to afford to drive a Lamborghini Gallardo as a daily driver, even though you might WANT to. In addition, even though you might WANT to be a neurologist, you might not have the money to put yourself through the schooling necessary. And at the same time, we need to limit certain freedoms of certain people. For example: felons aren't allowed to vote, or own weapons. I am comfortable with that.

Aside from all the political talk, my idea of freedom is living forever and being free from sin.

Everyone has a different concept of what freedom is; its like having a 100 people look at an event and you get a 100 different versions of what they saw. Freedom to me. The right to worship God, whenever and where ever I want. The right to own a gun. The right to speak my mind without fear of being jailed for it or losing my job. The right to disagree with someone of color without being called a racist. The right to say that homosexuality is wrong without being called a homophobe. The right to vote and have it count. There are many more things I consider a right.
