Why should the government make people buy health insurance if it is not cost effective?

I don't think we should have to buy health insurance if the health plans that are available today are a peace of ****. I am self employed and don't have health insurance because the health insurance companies want to charge me 230 a month and i have still pay 5k out of my own pocket before they start to pay anything and they won't cover my preexisting condition Health insurance companies don't pay anything. I would be okay with health insurance if i paid one low amount per month for life no changes in rate and the insurer covers everything, not one cent comes out of my poket
Answer:

They shouldn't. Health care is a state issue not an issue that should be covered by congress. Someone needs to check Article I section 8 of the constitution.
