How to find information on a Murder Case?

• My aunt was murdered here in Austin, Texas when I was young. I was really young but I remember the police officer coming to our door. My aunt is from Taiwan so I'm not really what her name was /is , nor am I'm too sure about the year. I know it was before 1984 and stand the fact that I still can remember when the police officer coming to our door about it makes me think I had to be around 6, 7 or 8 years old. The only real details I know is it was a man who raped and stabbed her. My cousin, her son was there and he is 3 years older than me. He was in the apartment where it happened but survived. I can't really ask my parents more details as they rarely talk about it and I'm sure it still upsets my parents. Any idea how I can start finding out more information without going to my parents first?

  See if your cousin will give you at least the name - then you can Google search for it and also go to the local newspaper archives (probably in your local reference library) and look it up there once you have more accurate dates.
