How do you think we should solve the energy crisis?
-
Here are the facts: We can't build enough wind, solar, or hydro to replace our baseload (coal) plants. Nuclear plants are awesomely expensive and would get caught up in the courts by all the opponents. Energy efficiency is difficult because people are building bigger homes with more gadgets in them, even if they are trying to do it efficiently. Many customers do not want to or cannot pay more for energy. People oppose new transmission lines, which would bring power from other areas and reduce the need to build new plants in an area. No one wants more coal plants. Reliable carbon sequestration is years off (we need more power now.) What the heck do we do?

Answer:
The fact is no one is taking the initiative. We don't have to convert all energy to wind, solar, ect. (although it would be nice) If every home had some solar panels, it would significantly cut down on private energy use, windmills would fit great in those podunk midwestern towns with 700 acres and 15 residents... Heck, a guy in Beverly is heating his home with geothermal heat all winter. Everyone can whine, but when it comes time to change their lives, no way.

solar could be used more efficiently it just needs the research funding. Also geothermal is a good way to go for some regions but not all. Personally the population sizes should be regulated for certain areas because there are more people living there than the land can support which uses up more resources etc... I believe that the large cities need to have a crack down on their energy usage. They should replace old energy inefficient systems and discourage waste of electricity. Superconductors would be a nice thing if they could ever get them to work. It would increase the efficiency of energy usage exponentially. so to sum it up, my solution is to advance certain technologies and to get the general populace to be aware of their own waste.
