Did you do anything special in remembrance of the tearing down of the Berlin Wall?
-
I paused to think about the history of Berlin as an enclave city. I remembered all I knew and read about the Berlin Airlift, and I remembered the Berlin Crisis in 1961. I remembered when the wall was built and how unfair we thought it was at the time. I was glad it came down, and I know many Germans who also rejoiced. The world is not yet at peace, but that part of it is more peaceful, and I am grateful for that. What did you do to mark the occasion?

Answer:
My husband served in Germany in WWII. We clapped with joy when we heard! I would love to see world peace but this more than likely will not happen in my lifetime.

I don't do much, Because people who are from other Country's or weren't there to experience it will never truly understand just how Good it is that the Berlin wall is Gone.
I know it is selfish of me, but I must be the only one who was sorry to see The Wall go. You could get black maket East Marks in West Berlin. I could go into East Berlin and buy drinks for the entire bar and it would only cost me a few bucks. Also, all the cloak and dagger tactics to cross the border were exciting. But, for the people of Germany, it was for the best. I was in Berlin the night the wall came down. I was in my hotel room and heard a commotion in the streets (I was staying behind the KaDeWe on Wittenburgplatz) and didn't know what was going on. Of course, everyone knew something was bound to happen what with all those East Germans escaping through third countries. I just saw people running, runing to the wall. I didn't know what was happening. For all I knew it could have been the Russians invading. I ran with them. First, crowds of people at the Brandenburg Gate, on the Western Side. Then one figure crawled up on the wall from the Eastern Side. Then more, and more, and more. The crowds were going wild. The next 10 days were the biggest, impromptu party I'd ever seen.
