How Television changed the quality of life?

How has television changed the quality of life?

  • Answer:

it decreased it. instead of playing outside and socializing kids are sitting in front of the tv for hours. we get all kinds of advertisements thrown at us like clothing, toys, junk food with tons of trans fat and cleaning products. when it comes time to sleep people sleep later in order to watch their favorite show. like on monday i will stay up for "heroes". so basically tv has a negative effect on the quality of life, but i like my movies.

,One way is depression. The best example I can give is the 9-11 attacks. After 2 weeks of watching nothing but tv about 9-11, I was so depressed I couldn't do anything else. I told myself, no more and turned to the comedy channel but guess what, no one was laughing there either, just more 9-11. I turned the TV off. If the 9-11 attacks had happened pre TV. Our exposure would have been limited to the radio, newspapers and gossip at the county fair. The event would not have paralyzed this nation for 3 weeks. Most people recovered from the depression and replaced it with anger. Even Congress was so angry they didn't think (or read) bills regarding Afghanistan and Osama Bin Laden. In general, TV has been a great asset to my life and I love my programs but for 3 weeks beginning Sept 11, TV did a great disservice to this nation and put us all into shock, not awe.

In every thing almost....This is a question that has indefinite answers... Too Lazy to list a huge No. of examples... The least to say here is PEOPLE ALL OVER THE GLOBE GETTING EXPOSED TO OTHER PEOPLE'S CULTURES & CIVILIZATIONS WOULD SURELY HAVE AN EFFECT ON QUALITY OF LIFE IN GENERAL...

Spring vs Fall

I think it has harmed our kids. Now kids watch TV all the time they no longer play outside so they are not as healthy as they were, you have kids that are obese, yes I know we always had a few heavy kids but not as many as we have now. They read less. When I was young my parents allowed us to watch the news during the week (yes even in elementary school) and sat. mornings we could watch 2 hours. sat. night the whole family would watch TV, popcorn, and our 1 pop for the week. Sunday night again was family night for TV along with cake and ice cream. I felt that was a healthy way and never bought a TV for my son until he was in 4 grade. He read books all the time did well in school. He has passed many of our rules to my grandson. I never minded not having alot of time in front of the TV. we were a very active family.

Here we are struggling with our free-will...we have the power to watch the junk on t.v. or the power to push the OFF button. Some of the educational channels can be very enlightening; but, do we watch them? no. Do we limit t.v. time? no. T.V. is a source of immediate gratification. Want to laugh - turn on a t.v. series --- want to watch some other peoples' lives -- (while we aren't living ours?) there are plenty of REALITY? shows.....bunk. Some parents use t.v. as a built-in babysitter.....I guess I am one from the old school and although I do enjoy Animal Planet, Discovery, Biography channels I still want to experience my life not someone on t.v.'s life. Either way, we spend too many hours staring at t.v. and these puters. As soon as the weather warms up you all will be seeing my tail-lights as I go out of this cabin and live!!!! Yes, it has changed our quailty of life.....both sides of the road have experienced good and evil.

I would have to say yes. When I was little we did have TV but it was like five channels and then it was over at midnight. Time for playing hide and go seek and other games outside was always our first choice. I mean we all knew everyone in the neighborhood people were outside more, will all gathered in the street to play kick ball. We had real fun and bonds. We weren't bombarded with images of sex and other peoples opinions 24/7. I think this is a good thing. We also got into a lot of great trouble, tree houses, buddy burners, making out...it was great.
