Are shy, quiet and introverted people discriminated against and is this fair?

Why are single people discriminated against in the application for social housing? and is this fair?

  • in today's society citizens fight for equality, in matters such as pay, employment, etc etc, how can it be right that i as a single tax paying citizen have a lesser priority than for talking sake a girl who has decided to get herself pregnant to obtain housing or a economic migrant who happens to have children. how can this be fair and right.

  • Answer:

You are correct. I have no chance of buying a house and have been on the housing list for years. I also have no chance of getting a council house either, my points are worth zilch. I'm over twice the age of the youngsters who are getting all the offers just by deliberately having babies.

I know this is true because I was a single person with housing problems, and I was expected to 'rough it'. A single person could get housing priority if they were disabled or an emergency medical case (a man or woman, they'd have to be treated equally). I suppose if you are a single able bodied person you can 'rough it', I lived in a bedsit with water coming down the walls. For a while.

I agree with you on the immigrant side of it, the indigenous population should be give priority over migrants what ever their reason for being here. However once a person has children, male or female, they have more responsibilities towards the welfare of their child so yes they should have priority. What cant be done is to regulate the ones who wish to manipulate the system.

We have to pay more for holidays too. They look after families with children first. It's always been that way. Women the elderly and children. I think we should just shoot the elderly and have done with it. They have grown old because they have been successful succeeding at the demise of the next man in life. They grow old and slow everyone down in shopping centres.

The way the allocation of council properties works means that you are not penalised by families. You are allocated a property of the size you require. As a single person, you only need a one bedroomed property, which is not suitable for a family with children therefore they are not stopping you from getting a council property. A single parent or even parents with children do not have the same opportunities to work as many hours as a single person can. They have responsibilities and caring duties that you don't. It does not all go their way. Look at your local council's housing rules and you will find that if you have been in private rental for more than three years you are seen as a priority case and put into a higher band than many others - including families.

Well you're tarring everyone with the same brush....I have 2 kids and also a husband...we dont earn much money....we should be before you in the queue for social housing as there are 2 children in the picture. That's that.

traditionalists think single are unnatural fellows hence they are uneasy

I agree with you on some of your points although I actually think they favor single parents. But you do realise that you are only eligiable for a 1 bedroomed property where a family would be eligable for a 2+ bedrooms so they wouldn't actually effect your waiting time in that sense. I do agree and I think social housing should only be for hard working people who just cant afford ridiculously high rents or mortgages, not low life scroungers who not only get cheap housing but also expect the tax payer to foot the bill for all their living expenses too. I am on the housing register and have been for nearly 2 years now. I dont ever stand a chance of getting a property with the council because my partner and I both work. Even so we struggle to get by and we budget for everything. Yes we do have a child but we certainly didn't have him in order to get cheap accommodation. It really annoys me when I see that some people on benefits are better off financially than we are. The government should never have allowed council tenants the opportunity to buy their house because if they are in a situation where they can get a mortgage then they dont need to be living in social housing! We certainly cant get a mortgage! The whole system needs a good shake up.

When a ship is sinking, it's women and children first, into the life boat. Would you get into the boat before them? Sometimes rules are created for moral reasons, in case we forget to do them voluntarily. This is one of those cases. Don't get mad, get even. Run for political office, and maybe you can change it. Good Luck.

I have not found this to be true. I know of a single man who has been housed very quickly, due to his homelessness.
