Maddy reward fund £millions. What about other children?
-
Is it just me or are others outraged by the £millions reward money for this one child, when there are millions of other children who are suffering and to whom probably just £50 would make an enormous difference to their lives. I too hope Maddy if found safe and well, but this is out of all proportion.

Answer:
It's a very good point. Hopefully if a reward proves not to be necessary then this money will be donated to a children's charity.

for crying out loud, not it isnt ridiculous. These are desperate times now, and money can make all the difference in getting a child safely returned to her parents. We are living in a materialistic world anyway, so yeah i think money would increase chances of getting her back, although it attracts hoax calls.

I agree - it is totally out of proportion. Yes it is sad that this has happened, and yes, I hope she is found or returned unharmed, but there are hundreds of children at risk in the UK right now, who need help, not to mention the millions across the world. Maybe one is more important than the many?? I don't know - I will leave that up to you and your conscience to decide!

The problem is this. Now I'll probably get loads of thumbs down for being cynical - but here it is anyway. There's a little thing going on here called Public Relations. 1 - The media whips up a story that captures the hearts of a whole nation. 2 - Some businessmen see it as a great way to draw attention to themselves as good caring people - so they offer a reward (cheaper than an advertising campaign) 3 - another businessman, not wanting to be outdone and also wishing to be perceived as good and caring ALSO makes an offer. 4 - the whole thing has a snowball effect. The more rewards being offered the more high profile the story becomes, the more high profile the more the opportunity for good publicity. 5 - Story becomes even MORE high profile, selling newspapers and rasing TV ratings. 6 - More businessmen either feel they HAVE to get involved and offer rewards, or also see it as good PR. 7 - I notice people are even canvassing on Answers for normal people like me and you to contribute to a fund to keep the McCanns out in Portugal. So now even normal people can get involved. And that's how our crazy world works. Good night...

If it results in the safe return of the child, surely you can't be against it?

You obviously don't have children. If you do I'm confused. Would you not gladly accept the offer in desperation if it meant the possibility of having your precious little girl back from the clutches of a monster? Yes we know millions of children are suffering, but so are people of all ages. We could say why not make the rich share their wealth with the poor but then but that's another argument. What do you do when there's so much poverty around the world? No matter how much money we pour into 3rd world countries it doesn't seem to make much difference anyway as they keep producing child after child into poverty. I'm not saying that to be heartless as like many of us we give what we can to charity but just for once can't we stop thinking about the moral aspect of the situation and think of what this sweet little girl must be going through no matter what the price? There's a difference between being poor and being abducted (and goodness knows what else).
