Is a journalism degree from canada worth anything in the us?
-
I am from the US and am 2 days from moving to Canada to begin my journalism degree studies at a university and I just realized there is a difference between the styles taught (Canadian press vs. American press). I have other reasons too but I am considering backing out and staying in the US and looking for a different school. However, if I do go and obtain a Bachelor of Journalism in Canada would it have any value when I brought it home? Or would I be causing myself trouble in the future? I only have a 2 days to figure out what to do!

Answer:
Do research and do it fast! I would think that as long as the school is university-rated, it should be alright (remember, people purposefully go overseas and study abroad). Also, you are right on the style difference. Canada-US news and media will have some differences. Don't go strictly from one source though, do some homework..... Best of luck!

i believe it would have equivalent value in America. If you are good at your job, then I don't think where you received your degree should be a problem. Good Luck

I think Journalism is one of those professions where a degree doesn't make you successful. What gives you value as a journalist is the ability to write well. To some degree, it can be taught, but for the most part, writing is a talent. So if you have the talent originally, and you love to tell stories, going to school in either country should just serve to help you finely tune your skills. And in that case, it doesn't matter where you go to school. Go to school where your heart tells you. Don't worry about the degree having value. YOU are what gives you value. I think a degree is neccessary, but where you get it doesn't matter. If anything a Canadian degree will give you a different perspective in the coming years in the development of new media which will have an international scope.
