What does the editor-in-chief do for a school newspaper?

School newspaper ideas?

  • I am in the 8th grade and this year is my first year writing for the school newspaper because I have just transferred schools and my previous school had no after school activities or anything for us, not even study hall. You learned all day & had lunch, walked in lines with teacher supervision in the hallway, and went home.. So I'm very excited to see what else this school also has to offer me for a better future(: Anyways, tomorrow we are having a meeting after school to assign our winter articles & start working on them at Flyer Staff. The newspaper group this is called the Flyer Staff and this would be the 2nd newspaper this year. For the first, I wrote about being a new student at school and gave advices to readers who were new to the school as well. I told my Spanish teacher, the one who's running the Flyer Staff about my mom's sudden heart problem that occurred the other night and I wouldn't be able to come tomorrow to the meet because I wanted to take care of my mom at home and make sure she was okay, as she wasn't even supposed to leave the hospital but did anyways. My mom ended up telling me that she has to work tomorrow though, meaning I could come to the meet tomorrow then. After telling the teacher about it, she told me she could just assign one for me at the time then, and we're able to write about anything (appropriate of course) that we want but told me that I'm a good writer & should write about what to do in a situation like this. I don't really want to write about it though, because it's my mom & I wouldn't like to write about it when hundreds of people are gonna be reading about it.. I'd rather keep it more personal. I'd like to maybe do an advice column for most of the articles I would be writing throughout the year, but I'd also like to do some fun, exciting, and interesting things.. Also things to do to help the community and stuff. What are some ideas for me to write about? (: Thanks.

How you can turn garbage into practical things or works of art. I knew this painter who owned a tattoo and piercing shop and he would always grab crap in the ally out back and paint really great stuff onto it. People have also made really practical things out of paper mache (which recycles newspaper). How people can pick up a new hobby and list a bunch of ideas for hobbies. Drawing, painting, writing, pyrography, collecting, building, woodworking, etc. Local events The latest new styles and your input on them

If you can contact them - headteacher may have contact details - you could interview one or two ex pupils to see what they did after school in their careers. Maybe take one or two photos of them. you could also go online and check other schools' magazines for ideas. Good luck
