Do you have to have experience to get work experience with a magazine or newspaper?

No, but you must appear to be interested in working in the media. Did you ever write a letter to a paper, write on a current afffairs internet board, do anything for your school magazine? Small magazine and newspaper companies are under dire financial stress at the moment due to the bad state of the economy and huge drop in advertising revenue. So try the main offices of larger ones who will almost certainly be part of a regional or nationl group. Find out something about them and offer to be as helpul as you possibloy can be if they give you a work expereince opportunity. Remember they are normal but very busy people.

I was 14 and in school and got to do a 1 week work expereince with our newspaper with no problems. Most big organisations have some kind of program set up. Have you tried the smaller ones? (like for instance dont try The Telegraph, but try the Salisbury Journal instead - obviously switch Salisbury to whatever town youre from)
