What are some neat careers in journalism?

Advice on Journalism careers?

  • My Aunt thinks I should get into Journalism as I'm always writing about my days in my journal and I write short stories, and keep trying to write a novel. I don't want to go back to college full time, but can't find any home courses for Journalism. Do you think its best if I start sending my stories and pieces of writing to certain magazines. Is that how you get into being a journalist. Sorry I don't know at all. Can anyone break it down what being a Journalist involves, I'm not sure if its the right career for me.

  • Answer:

If you enjoy writing, Journalism may be the right career. However, life if full of curves; thus, it is imperative you go to college and get your degree (preferably in Business Management). I say Business Management because it is one of those degrees that's highly regarded, no matter what field you end up in. In the meantime, you should contact your local newspapers or magazine editors/publishers to see if they would accept "freelance" writing. Only after they see your work, will they think seriously of hiring you on a full time basis. Journalists conduct lots of research, interviews, reporting and writing. It is a respectable career!
