Whats an editorial page in a magazine?

What is a magazine editorial content page?

  • In my class we are learning to layout magazines and we each have a story. We have to layout the story and do an editorial content page. I am not quite sure how to make one or what you put in it.

  • Answer:

There are two kinds of pages in any magazine, or any newspaper: editorial pages and advertising pages. In other words, the editorial content is the part that contains articles and photos that you sit and read. Advertising pages contain ads, from whatever company wants to pay for them. (And there are some pages that contain both editorial and ads -- like where there's a half-page of text and a half-page ad, but you get the idea.) So all you need to do is make a page from a magazine that doesn't have ads. There are magazines about any subject you can think of, so the topic could be anything. You could pretend you're working for a travel magazine, and if you went to the beach last summer, you could use some pictures of people swimming and sunbathing, and write an article about how clean the water is and what great restaurants they have nearby. Or it could be about anything else you're interested in. Most magazine layouts use lots of pictures, rather large headlines and a lot of color elements.
