What does the editor-in-chief do for a school newspaper?

How can I help create a newspaper for my school?

  • Hi, my name is Jared and I recently moved from a high school that had an excellent journalism department. Our newspaper won national awards and came out 2 times every month for most of the year. The newspaper production was also a class we got credit for. My new school has a newspaper that is only made once every 9 weeks and only by students in Journalism class... the final product is a 'final' for the class. The newspaper is of rather low quality and I believe it could be better. I want to help create a similar type of set up from old school. Some problems are funding and curriculum for school (for a newspaper class). What can I do? Any suggestions? Any help is appreciated.

  • Answer:

I would speak to the person currently in charge of the existing paper, and discuss it with them. Be prepared with written points of how you would improve the paper, and remember it is easier to finish building something, than to begin building There is already an existing structure, and what you want to do is improve on it.
