How do I create and publish a magazine?

Can I publish pictures that I take of houses in a local neighborhood? Do I need permission first?

  • I know that it is legal to take pictures of private residences from public property. My senior project is to create and publish a magazine in print format. The neighborhood surrounding my school is a major focus of the project. I am only printing about 10 copies of the magazine to distribute to the board of judges, my mentor, and my family. Do the homeowners need to be notified that their houses will be featured? Part of the neighborhood is rather run-down and "sketchy" so I don't want any trouble, and I don't want to ruin the reputation of my school either. These photographs will only be used for my project but I want to do it the proper way. Thanks for your help!

  • Answer:

As you stated, you have the right to do so...that said, if indeed it is a sketchy neighborhood just be obvious, conspicuous so as not to look like any thing but what you are - innocent! working on a school project...anyone says something about it - don't take pictures of their property, I'm sure there are more then enough shots to fulfill your project requirements.
