How to write good sports blogs?

How could i get involved in doing something like Sports Journalism?

  • okay, so i have applied for University in September. i have applied to do English, but i am not too sure if i will get in, plus i don't know if i will end up finding the course boring or not. i am really into sports, read basically every piece of football/ rugby union that looks even half- interesting. i also keep an eye on golf, tennis, snooker etc., although i find my 2 previous sports MUCH the more fascinating. i believe i am good at English as i got a B at Higher, without even finishing the paper, and doing no work all year haha. i am currently on a gap year kind of due to my health, and i am not doing too much. i believe i am able to write a good piece on either football or rugby, that is both knowledgable and controversial, due to me being opinionated and passionate. i write on this occasionally, but it is more ex problems and things like that haha. but on both the bbc, and yahoo sport, i regularly reply to blogs etc, giving my opinion and facts off the top of my head. i also had a question answered in Jeremy Guscott's bbc column the other week. should i write in to places? or look for maybe getting a Uni degree first? i am 18 btw. thankyou :D

The guy above me is a fool. Yes, okay, I think you should get a degree in it before you jump into anything too serious. Once you have a degree you'll go far. Although, if you enjoy English and you're good at it naturally then go for it! After all, it might be fun. Remember, you have your whole life ahead of you to get involved in different professions. You got a B in higher level English, That's absolutely brilliant! Best of luck mate, hope you're successful! :)

To be a good journalist, you need to be good at English grammar. The question you have just written was an awful use of English grammar. You need to study more before going any further! "although i find my 2 previous sports MUCH the more fascinating" "i write on this occasionally, but it is more ex problems and things like that haha" "i am currently on a gap year kind of due to my health" That is really bad grammar. Yes there are no capitals and no, I'm not on a high horse. You asked a question about a desire to go into journalism. I just mentioned that you need to study more on your grammar. If you can't take that as advice, then you are going nowhere in life. Btw; High horse doesn't have a hyphen in it!

This sounds too obvious, but don't forget that a sports journalist is a journalist. A sports journalist needs to know all the basic rules of writing and reporting. A knowledge of sports is certainly important, but the ability to write well, conduct a good interview, and find out facts that the subjects don't necessarily want to have found out are more important. So, major in journalism. Learning the correct way to structure a story is the first step. Then, work for the university's newspaper, and try to get an internship at a local or metropolitan newspaper during the summer. You will need to show lots of published clippings before you're hired at any professional publication.
