How do I become a freelance writer?

• I wish to become a freelance writer & casually submit articles to websites. How do I go about doing this? By casually, I mean this: I've written an article, and I'd like to submit it to a website. So I look at my list of websites, and choose one to send it to. How do I contact the websites I would write for? Is there an online marketplace for people to post their articles, so that people can choose one for their website. What's the pay like? Any advice would be appreciated.

  Choose a website that has a 'Contact Us' facility which you can use to submit your article. You might even consider submitting your article to a well known newspaper or magazine via their website, that way you know they will be responsible and give you proper feedback. Once you can get established, you could ask your publisher what subjects they would like you to cover. By doing this, you are not just making a guess at what they want. Sounds good.
