What is the decline in the global population of honey bees?

Why is the Honey bees population in such a decline ?

  • Are Scientists trying to help this situation with help from the scientific community ?

  • Answer:

This may be of interest - scientists call the phenomenon colony collapse disorder - research suggests insecticides used in farming uses and viruses and a particular nasty parasite that science is now targeting these are possible factors Data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture show a 29 per cent drop in beehives in 2009 following a 36 per cent decline in 2008 and a 32 per cent fall in 2007. This affects not only honey production but around 15 billion dollars worth of crops that depend on bees for (pollination) propagation.

It seems to me that the essential problem is an increasing human population. With more land under cultivation and greater use of pesticides to feed an ever-more crowded world, bee populations are feeling the strain. As their numbers dwindle, such measures could actually have the opposite effect and decrease crop yields. Interestingly enough, Australia appears to be as yet unaffected by this mortality, which is why the country is exporting their bees. It's only a sticking-plaster solution, however, and I do fear for the future.

Probably human activity and all that goes with it. If this gets any worse and the Bee population globally plummets, then expect a knock at your door from someone in authority maybe even a soldier informing you in no uncertain terms that you have been selected to go into the field's and pollinate the crops manually, because with-out Bee's our crops will not get pollinated except for the self pollinating ones that's if there are some food crops that self pollinate. Because no pollinated crops means, NO HARVEST, which in turn means little or NO FOOD. And that is when the shite really does hit the fan, big-time, because this would make this credit crunch and a host of other natural and man-made disasters look like a walk in the park.

Apparently mites (can't remember the exact name) have come over from Africa and our bees can't cope with them. Also there's the destruction of the bees natural habitat and I don't think much is being done, but it's been in the news, so that's better than people not knowing at all.

Im not sure, but the governmnent apparently has only dedicated about 200 grand to the problem. This is a drop in the ocean. I think they are hoping one of the foreign governments funds the solution to the problem.

Pollution, humans building flats where gardens used to be, an apparent desease that bees are getting.

I think technology and air waves, especially from mobile phones.

Scientists are still not sure but think it’s related to diseases from pesticides. It’s most likely due to the selfishness of humans and the messed up seasons due to pollution. Without them we are in serious trouble. http://www.sciencedaily.com/videos/2007/0703-honeybee_decline.htm
