I thought it was only in Britain that we have drunken louts smashing up graves and nicking the bronze plaques off the war memorials. We sometimes have this romantic idea of the Noble Savage, and that ignorant louts only exist outside nightclubs of British cities at chucking-out time, or midwestern rednecks chewing gum and looking blank in the face of the suffering of others. What we saw there are Libyan ignorant louts. No longer with a dictator to keep them in order, they can come out and do what they have to do. They call themselves Jihadists taking revenge for the American burning of the Qu'ran in Afghanistan. Yet, they are so ignorant, they cannot even tell the difference between Americans and British, nor the conflict in Afghanistan freeing that place from the Taliban (whom the Jihadist louts regard as comrades-in-arms, the same as some of our louts feel an affinity with the EDL and the BNP) and WW2, where the British were fighting Rommel to liberate Libya from the fascists and the nazis, who were hardly devout Muslims. Are they so stupid that they do not know the difference between the Taliban and Hitler? I regret they are.
