What world events are affecting you?

Why do people deny genocide, and other terrible events in world history?

• I am working on getting a black metal band together, the more i get into the music i hear the more i research things i never learned in school, it makes me wonder why they don't teach us things like the events of Bathory, or Vlad The Impaler, is the world in denial? I beleive if everybody knew about these tragedies nobody would worry about the world becoming wicked and the "Sign Of The Times" crap would be over..the world today is amazing compared to the dark ages so whats with all these jackasses on tv telling everybody to prepare for armageddon, after the research i've done, the world today is just peachy, and there is no "global warming" by what i've looked at the temperatures are just on a pattern of heating up gradually over the years and then dropping down slowly and doibng it again..is the world really this stupid or is the media trying to make us stupid?

  Political correctness. We didn't hear Serbs had been suffering at the hands of Bosnians for decades, the Serbs get the upper hand (I'm not excusing the genocide, it's the same thing going on in Iraq or for that matter Somalia or Darfur) and we have to jump right in and and stop them. There were plenty of conflicts between European powers, and civil wars where they savaged their own neighbors (look up the massacre of protestants in Ireland in 1661, or the campaign of "Bloody Cumberland" and even the later Highland Clearances in Scotland. Bonnie Prince Charles roasted a protestant girl on a tavern fireplace spit when on his expedition into England. There were plenty of "ethnic cleansing" campaigns by Native Americans against Europeans/USA, and vice versa, but like all the rest, whoever writes the history books controls the "truth" of history. The way I see it there are two sides to every story and the truth is usually somewhere in between, and a half truth is no better than a lie (wish someone could get that lesson through Ted Turner's empty skull). The democrats now speak of Saddam Hussein as just misunderstood, forgetting he tortured, executed and gassed thousands of his fellow countrymen. Old Vlad had a point, (he wasn't actually a vampire or cannibal), he just knew the value of psychological warfare, as did his opponents, who convinced his wife he was dead so she flung herself from the castle to her death. He had to deal with one enemy quickly to face another even greater threat, Romania tried to make piece with the muslim invader but they would accept nothing less than full control, and Romania drew the line and held it, saving Europe, for the time being anyways. Likewise they tried to seize Gilbralter for several years, a vital waterway between east and west, but were unsuccessful. They were the reason that much of the ancient world's treasures were looted, corrupted or destroyed, such as the Acropolis in Greece, the destruction of the giant Bhuddas in Afghanistan are just the most recent example. But to say anything bad about THEM is "intolerance" and not "politically correct". So just get an authentic text of the Qu-ran and read it for yourself. All cultures/religions/nations have done bad things in their past, the point is trying to evolve beyond that, and leave barbarism in the dustbin of history where it belongs. ("Man's inhumanity to man, makes countless thousands mourn.") And move forward to a world that can work together, instead of arms itself with weapons of mass destruction to fight over dwindling resources. Because if nukes start flying all previous crimes against humanity will be rendered mute and piddling in a flash of light.
