How can i help my over weight boy friend lose weight?

my boyfriend is an over weight guy, and when we started going out a short time ago, i offered to help him and be of encouragement and also cooking healthy meals but he consumes a lot and when we go out walking i feel he is agitated because he is over weight and I'm not so i feel he thinks everyone is looking at him and making fun of his weight and i feel his frustration, although he consumes a good amount of food he does drink water after each meal and i have him walking alot every single day and i think he envy's the fact that i can consume alot and not really have a weight issue as he does, but i see potential in him and i never really dated an overweight guy and trying to give him a chance because he is a nice guy, i understand that losing weight can be a hard thing but this is something i can't hold his hand on, and i can't be the food patrol running up and taking things from him, and he wants to purpose to me but i told him when he lose a certain amount of weight i'd marry him, he is just starting in his weight lose thing but how do i get him more focused, because he can really eat and it shows?

Hi angel, I have a few things to say, not to detract from your question, but offer my own suggestions. First of all, the fact that you are involved in the process is a Great thing. Even a walk, if you go along, is helpful, because it's not only exercise but time sharing. Exercising beyond walking need not be strenuous, but should be focused on what areas are a challenge. If healthy in other ways, is he seen by doctors on occasion for the issue? Or just a health screening? What is his height, as compared to mass? As a practicing vegetarian for 10 years I'm not suggesting he try that, but weight management is a discipline, not always a subjective thought. OK, I'll say my thinkin. Less can be more, such as 5 "meals" a day, healthy, rather than overdoing in 1, 2, or 3 meals. Smaller portions. Push away from the table even if still hungry limit or stop snack foods such as chips, cookies, etc. Lower the carb intake, increase the healthy protein intake, our bodies need both, but in a balance. Reduce or eliminate soda, alcohol, high fructose substances, fatty meats (trim them), Processed meats, Cheese "products", not real cheese, but mostly vegetable oils, Drink soy milk if he is milk drinker, Don't use artificial sweetners, eat a hard boiled egg when hungry, it does work, Chewing a piece of celery for example uses more calories than it offers, (sex) works too, sorry. Eat at regular times when possible, not binging, or impulsively, and not just before bed, and never grocery shop when hungry. I probly have ton more, (no pun) No diet pills, No fads, no surgery is needed, some are just predisposed, genetically to weight. BUT bein fit is not impossible angel. If he works out, which may take time to grow into, it need not be hard time spent, but on some regular basis, even with music or a work out video and you can be involved too. To help another we gotta show, not just tell.

you leave many questions. how old is he, is he a vet, how overweight is he? has he gone to a doctor for a physical? is he border line diabetic or does he have type 2 diabetes? if he is in pain when he walks, can he get into an aquatics class? go online to MY PYRAMID.COM OR IF HE IS A VET, get him to a veterans clinic or hospital.
