How do I help my friend with guys?

How am I supposed to express to my friend that i love him (help from a guys perspective)?

He's my ex of two years. When I say I love him I don't mean in a romantic way, I mean in a way that I truly whole heartedly care for him as a friend. We have so many memories together, not just from our relationship but also from way back ( we've been friends since a long time) How do I express to him that he means a lot to me and that I honestly care for his well being without scaring him off? I don't want him to get a bad, or the wrong impression. I had a him listen to a song "count on me" by Bruno mars. I don't think he got the memo, he just said it was a nice song. I dont care what he says or how he takes me, I just really need to get it off my chest, with the right words. Will you please help me? To pick the right words to say
