Married couples.. what is the appropriate age for the following scenarios regarding your children?
-
A friend and I were talking about our kids, and she was telling me that her friend still goes into the bathroom with her 10 year old son while he showers. This absolutely APPALLED me, as I allow my 8 year old to shower without any assistance. It got me thinking, and I was wondering at what age everyone thought the following scenarios were appropriate. 1. At what age do you allow your child to bathe/shower alone (unsupervised)? 2. At what age do you STOP allowing your child to climb into bed with you or sleep all night with you and your spouse? 3. At what age does it become inappropriate (if ever) to hold hands with a parent? Does it make a difference if it's a boy or a girl, or if it's with a same sex or opposite sex parent? 4. At what age, if ever, do you feel it is inappropriate for a child to be cuddling with their parent? 5. At what age, if ever, do you TELL your child there is no Santa if they haven't figured it out yet? 6. At what age do you stop giving your child time-outs, and move on to another form of discipline? 7. Do you believe in spanking your child? If so, at what age would you no longer find this to be appropriate? Like I said, there aren't really for any personal problems I was having, just taking a general consensus to see how other people felt about these situations! I'll post my answers later after I pick a best answer. :)

At what age, if ever, do you feel it is inappropriate for a child to be cuddling with their parent? i'm a woman, if i had a girl she could cuddle with me with her entire life. i still cuddle with my mom sometimes and i'm 31. for a boy - age 10. 5. age has nothing to do with anything above and all issues regarding children should be based on maturity's of the child and how well the child can handle responsibility

When you become a parent these kind of things work themselves out. There is no real age limit for a kid to stop being a kid. But I would like to add that spanking a child will work for a second, but the emotional scars will cause a lot more problems down the road. Any time you feel you need to hurt a child to get them to do something then you are the one who has lost control not them. This comes from personal experience, and I have made a lot of mistakes.

My daughter started showering alone with the door shut when she was about 7ish, my son is 3 and has a bath with me not in the room, but no more then 5 feet from the open door (usually at the washer, just outside the bathroom door and we talk) My 10 year old still climbs in for a cuddle now and then and I can't get the 3 year old out. Both of my kids hold my hand still, they'll determine when they're too old. I cuddle with both of my children, the'll determine when they are too old. I won't tell my children there is no Santa, last year my daughter didn't believe in Santa anymore so she got to be a "helper", this year shes decided to believe in him again... They'll know when its time My 10 year old gets grounded and the 3 year old gets time outs or goes to bed (he usually gets bad when he is tired) I do pop my son (3) on the butt if he is doing something dangerous because it gets his attention so he'll see that car coming. My daughter is too old for spankings. I never really had to spank my daughter when she was younger, she was such a good easy going kid, so I'm not real sure.

Mommy to 2 beautiful boys!
1. Six, but I don't have a major problem assisting -- for example if the kid needs a bar of soap or something. 2. This is a major bone of contention with my spouse and I -- she's far more liberal. I vote age 5 at the latest. 3. This isn't wrong at any age with either parent. 4. It's not inapproriate to cuddle. 5. Geez, my kid's in 5th grade and still believes. I hope this is the last year. 6. Age three. 7. No.

mother of 3 and i agree it's not about the age it's about the maturaty of the child but if at 10 the kid can't take a bath by himself she needs to make him take on some responsibilty

Too many moms are little else, and they are SO wrapped up in being the perfect mom that they are sure all other moms are wrong. I agree completely with JJ. I also sincerely wish that women would support each other instead of finding fault constantly. Being a mom, step-mom, wife, daughter, sister, employee is hard. Everyone does it differently. Whatever you may think, you don't set the standard, you just do it your way. That doesn't make it the right way. There's something about a high-horse in here. Also, I think if more women became more than moms they might be less attached to what a perfect one they are. Go to college, pursue a dream, don't judge other women so harshly. I say this in the kindest, most non-judgmental way possible.

1. At what age do you allow your child to bathe/shower alone (unsupervised)? 6 2. At what age do you STOP allowing your child to climb into bed with you or sleep all night with you and your spouse? Bad dreams happen all they way up to 11-12, but for normal purposes ( 3-4 years) 3. At what age does it become inappropriate (if ever) to hold hands with a parent? Does it make a difference if it's a boy or a girl, or if it's with a same sex or opposite sex parent? It's never inappropriate, but getting to do it past 13 is near impossible. 4. At what age, if ever, do you feel it is inappropriate for a child to be cuddling with their parent? Never 5. At what age, if ever, do you TELL your child there is no Santa if they haven't figured it out yet? If they are past 4-5th grade, and we just confirm it and let them in on the secret of Christmas spirit. 6. At what age do you stop giving your child time-outs, and move on to another form of discipline? 3-4 years 7. Do you believe in spanking your child? If so, at what age would you no longer find this to be appropriate? No, it is the atom bomb of punishments and really shouldn't be used at all. There are so many other ways to punish without striking a child.

Jeez, my sisters 3 year old son takes a bath by himself. She runs the water, he gets in, plays, tells her when he's done and she goes in to wash his hair. I couldnt imagine her doing that when he's 10, let alone sitting in the room with him.
