How can i find someone i have lost contact with?

I was able to find an old college friend of mine who I lost touch with, and whose name had even changed, by using peoplefinders.com. There are several different providors that do the same thing including peoplesearch.com and ussearch.com. The one I used charged $14.95 and I had access to an unlimited 24 hour search which provided recent addresses and phone numbers. I ended up trying several different phone numbers before I found her. There was alos a whole lot of outdated information on there to sift through. If you want to find this person badley enough, a little $$ helps a lot. There's no gurantees but it's worth a try.

start by calling their relatives in the town they are from. If you don't know where they are from then it couldn't be that important.

Doesn't sound like you knew him very long at all. It may be disastrous to contact him after all this time if you haven't known him long. But with that said, you can try to contact any of his family members. They would know.

Well, if you know his name, what state and/or city his is from originally you can search that way, I know where I am from the county website allows you to look up voter regsitration cards by names, find address and then phone number from the address.
