How to be a better sales associate in retail?

How much does par- time retail sales associate make at the mall in Pennsylvania? ?

I never work as a sale associate (retail sales). And I am thinking of applying a job (like Gap, Gymboree, Ann Taylor kind of stores). It is in Pennsylvania. Does anyone know what is the average hourly wage? thanks!

I live in PA and the average wage for Erie, PA is about 8.00 per hour. Most of the time newbies get the crappy hours to start with but if you stick with it, a lot of these kind of stores offer promotions so you have a chance of moving up in the company if you so desire. Now is a good time to start applying because many college students and some high school students have left employment to go back to school.
